5 Ways to Update Your Living Room

As your living room is one of the most used rooms in the house, it’s important that it feels cozy, welcoming, and reflects your tastes and style.  If you think your living room starting to look outdated, or you simply feel the need for a change, there are many things you can do to achieve this, whatever your budget. Here are five suggestions you might want to use to update your living room and turn it into an idyllic hideaway this winter.

1.   New Furniture

If your couch is looking a bit worse-for-wear, or your favorite armchair has seen better days, perhaps it’s time to buy a new furniture suite for your living room. There are many designs to choose from, but the most important thing is that your new furniture is comfortable and can support your body properly as you sit or lie on it. Leather sofas are always glamorous, but there are some beautiful fabrics that you might prefer (and that you won’t stick to)! Find a suite that matches your style, or choose to buy mismatched items for a quirkier look.

2.   A Fireplace

Do you want your living room to be a cozy haven? Well, while there are plenty of things you can buy to help create this vibe, there is nothing that says ‘cozy’ better than a roaring fire. From modern designs to an antique fireplace, whatever you choose to have installed in your living room will look incredible. A new fireplace will certainly update your living room and be a wonderful, dramatic feature that you and your guests are sure to love.

3.   Change the Color Scheme

For a bigger project, consider changing the color scheme in your living room. A coat of new paint or some fresh wallpaper will utterly transform your living room and achieve a completely fresh look. Consider using warmer, relaxing tones to create the right atmosphere, and don’t be afraid to go bold if you want to add some drama. However, think about choosing more timeless designs to avoid feeling the need to update your living room all over again next year.

4.   Floors

Fading and threadbare carpets look dreadful, and if your living room carpet is beginning to go that way it’s time to replace it. While light carpets are lovely to look at, consider how dirty they can get and whether your household would benefit more from darker tones that don’t show-up spills so easily. Alternatively, you could have wood flooring installed and pair that with a beautiful rug if you prefer rustic looks.

5.   Accessories

If your budget won’t cover the items listed above, don’t worry. You can still update your living room by introducing some new decorative accessories. From pretty prints hanging on your walls to gorgeous houseplants placed on your coffee table or in window-sills, there is plenty to choose from if you want to add something new to your living room. Candles, throws, and cushions are also affordable items that you might want to introduce to help create a new look.

If you want to refresh your living room and make it the perfect place to hang out this winter, consider the points above to help make it happen.
